Ever since the global pandemic struck, a staggering number of self-proclaimed "online gurus" have emerged, most offering exorbitantly priced courses with little to no long term value.

Malaysian startup, OpenAcademy, is on a mission to put an end to all that — by providing a platform for people to access high-quality, affordable, "no-fluff" learning courses.

The startup just launched the OpenAcademy App 2 days ago, where users can download and access a range of learning content from a curated group of mentors, all from a single place.

The new OpenAcademy app

What makes OpenAcademy unique is their approach to delivering "byte-sized" content in the form of short, Snapchat-like stories

The concept behind this is to provide a mobile-first education app for busy professionals who are always on the move, while keeping learning short and effective

Content is presented in a combination of videos, articles, and questionnaires — ensuring sessions are interactive, engaging, and effective.

Upon downloading the app, users will be presented with a range of topics they can learn about, ranging digital marketing, entrepreneurship, e-commerce, and several more.

Most learning courses are presented by the OpenAcademy and OpenMinds Resources founders themselves, as well as a curated group of mentors.

The app follows a freemium model where users are able to access some of the content for free, and sign up for a monthly/yearly subscription to unlock the rest of the content if they are convinced of its value.

While the app is still new and has limited content, it is just a matter of time before more more courses are added.

Whether OpenAcademy will take off in Southeast Asia is still too early to know, but one thing for sure is the vision for the startup's existence is clear.

"The vision is clear: Powerful, bite sized, no fluff, and no upsell learning delivered in a mobile-first story-like format. This means you can get insights and learn topics within minutes on-the-go instead of sitting through lengthy sessions on your laptop!", mentioned co-founder of OpenAcademy and founder of OpenMinds Resources, Jan Wong
