BIR takes cue from Marcos against illicit tobacco trade - Business Mirror

Quick Summary:

THE Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) vowed to continue its crackdown on all proliferators of illicit cigarettes and vape products in the country this year as it aims to plug tax leakages from the commodity.

Aside from illicit trade, the BIR’s Run After Fake Transactions (RAFT) campaign has yielded P4.3 billion for the agency in 2024.

This comes after President Ferdinand R.Marcos Jr.said tax evaders “who continue to circumvent the system” will be held accountable.“And I say this with hope and with sternness—hope that we all see the value in contributing to our country and that the law will deal sternly against those who exploit the system unfairly,” the President said.
